Shop 52-1: {plint}

by Travelingmama on July 9, 2010

It seems like every time we turn a corner another adorable shop is there waiting to be discovered and explored.  There are so many shops here in Copenhagen… small shops with that “shop around the corner” kind of feel to them.  Oftentimes they are tucked away in side streets and would easily be overlooked.  We have decided to unearth them, one by one, week by week, and share our findings with you.  It will certainly stretch us… finding a new shop that is interesting and unique for 52 weeks straight?  But we thought it would do two things: 1) Help us get to know our city and it’s shop owners and 2) Show you more of Copenhagen… and maybe motivate you to come visit, too!  And hopefully not make us go broke!  I promise to show restraint for the sake of research… because a scientist must always be objective!  Hmmm… not buying it, huh?  Well, I promise to be on my best behavior and share all the new things we are discovering and loving along the way!

I don’t know about you, but we are ready to get started!  Our first shop is called Plint, and I must admit that it was love at first sight.  Located down a side street off the Stroget, which is the main shopping street of Copenhagen, it stands out as you come around the corner with all it’s bright colors and cheery decor.

I discovered it the first time we visited Copenhagen last Fall, and I have not stopped thinking about it since!  Our bags were full… and I do mean FULL, so I didn’t buy anything on my first visit.  Traveling Man had to drag me away from all the bright prints, beautiful linens and cute, whimsical  finds with promises of letting me return and buy whatever I liked.

I am not one to let another man forget his promises, so as soon as we were over jet lag I knew just where we were headed.  Okay, okay.  It was like two days after we got here, but a girl has her priorities!  A man needs his hot dogs and a woman needs her shops!

So, what do you all think?  Is this the kind of project that you would like to see more of?  Anyone interested in doing their own Shop 52 for your city or State?  If so, let me know!  We will have a button ready shortly for you to add to your blog.

My eyes popped open wide when I saw all those bright, fun, cheerful colors and then I realized that I was smiling. So, yes! I’m interested in seeing more of the shops of Copenhagen!! And may your wallet not suffer from filling our eyes with the treasures of your new city. :>

I am a sucker for colors – I have hundreds of eye shadows in every imaginable color. I never wear much but i like to gather them up and look at them.
I would love Plint.

oh dang. I already know I’m going to be tempted to blow our whole vacation budget on our first stop when we’re in CPH next week!! =P That floral oilcloth would be a great kitchen tablecloth!

Yes, keep posting on this series, I’m so curious!! You’re in a huge city that’s also a design destination, so I’m sure there’s fun to be found! Sadly, I don’t think I could round up 52 interesting shops in my little university town. Maybe 30. =P

I’m going to send you my list of everything I want from that store! ;o) Just from the pics you posted I know it’s a store that would make me very, VERY happy.

The area I live in doesn’t have enough unique places to do a 52 week project. But I am REALLY looking forward to all of yours!

Love it! And love the idea! Looking forward to seeing the next shop. I was in the States this weekend and had a great time going into little shops…and tried to have some restraint.

I love Plint!! Have you been to Grønlykke yet? So nice but SO expensive. Lisbeth Dahl is a pretty nice store, too!

I’m trying to do some catching up on blog reading between other stuff today — and finally made it to the Traveling Tribe! Love your Shop 52 idea. Can’t wait to see more of Copenhagen — and this first shop you’ve shown certainly looks like my kind of place! This is just the kind of thing I’d like to try to do, I’ll have to give it some thought.

I have been enjoying your blog(s) for some time now. I am so excited by your Shop 52 project…I am hoping that before this year is over we will be able to visit Copenhagen ourselves. It seems so random, but last year my husband started travelling there for work…and it seems that ever since all the roads are leading to Copenhagen, or at least all the blogs and magazines I read are. I look forward also to seeing your new home.
